February 2024: I completed this illustration for my MEJO 482: Media Design for our third project, in which we were given hypothetical article topics to choose from that we used as the basis for an editorial illustration that would accompany the article. I chose to design for an article concerning plastic in the world’s oceans. Designed in Illustrator. I traced a free vector graphic of the whale, so I want to credit that artist- you can find the original graphic at this link: http://vectorstock.com/22483205.

Infographics
April 2023: As part of a class-wide infographic magazine on reproductive health that we made in MEJO 484: Infographics, I collaborated with a classmate on a spread about sex education. I designed the first page of this spread, which covers Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and LGBTQ+ representation in sex education. The spread was designed in Adobe Illustrator. I also served as co-assistant art director for the magazine, helping to design its style guide and providing sources to contextualize our magazine’s topic.
March 2023: This was designed for MEJO 484: Infographics. Our prompt was to design a how-to or beginner’s guide. Having studied American Sign Language for a few years, I chose it as my topic. This piece was executed entirely in Adobe Illustrator. Upon reviewing my initial draft with my professor, I repurposed and added illustrators to create more balance between text and illustrations.
February 2023: Also designed for MEJO 484: Infographics. This was our first major project, and our prompt was entertainment. I chose Hadestown as my topic because I love the musical and thought I could create a visually appealing graphic that also dove deep into the background of the topic. Constructed entirely in Adobe Illustrator, this graphic took me about 45 hours, much of which was devoted to the illustrations, which I made by tracing photo references with the pen tool and exploring the tools I could use for coloring and shading.
December 2022: My first ever infographic, this piece was designed for MEJO 182: Foundations of Graphic Design. We were free to choose a topic of our own, so I chose a social issue that is important to me: harm reduction. This project was an exploration into many of Adobe Illustrator’s basic tools, including the pen tool, which I used to trace my map, and the charts tool, which I used to display statistics. I also learned how to bring in my own hand-drawn illustrators via scan.
Page Design
September 2024: For our first assignment in MEJO 683: Magazine Design, we were tasked with creating a front cover and spreads on a topic of our choice. Inspired by Rolling Stone’s then-recent article featuring pop icon Chappell Roan, I chose to use that article and outsourced photos to create my spreads, and used a photo reference to create my own illustration of Roan using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Pages were built in Adobe InDesign.
April 2024: For my MEJO 482: Media Design class, we were tasked with creating a bilingual magazine on a topic of our choice using outsourced photos and articles to practice our skills in Adobe InDesign.
July 2023: This was a personal project I did to show proof of concept for a redesign of the 2023 NC Governor’s School East summer book, which is a hybrid magazine-newsletter that comes out once at the end of the session. I primarily used InDesign.
